Great Britain and England powerhouse Jamie Peacock has been announced as Guest of Honour for the 2017 Rugby League Varsity Match.
The game – between the Dark Blues of Oxford University and Light Blues of Cambridge – will take place on Friday 3 March at the Honourable Artillery Company in the heart of the City of London. Tickets are on sale now.
One of the longest-serving and outstanding players in Super League history, Peacock retired at the end of the 2015 season after 17 years’ of top flight professional rugby league football, and helping Leeds Rhinos take the Treble.
Making the announcement, Rugby League Varsity Match Director Mark Ramsdale said: “It is great that Jamie will be speaking at the 2017 Varsity Match. As a rugby league fan, you can’t help but admire him as a player, and as a professional his work outside the game is second-to-none. Combined with his abilities as a public speaker and television presenter, he is an ideal speaker for the pre-match lunch”.
Whilst playing, Peacock gained an MBA and spent time studying in Sydney at the University of Wollongong. He is currently Head of Rugby at Hull Kingston Rovers.
On the announcement, Peacock said “it’s a privilege to speak at the Varsity Match. Oxbridge rugby league has a history of producing captains of industry and to meet and discuss the sport and their work is a great opportunity. I have seen and heard the event is a fantastic day and I am very much looking forward to it already.”
