The Pcubed Rugby League Varsity Match has announced Spitfire Ale as its official beer.
Originally brewed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, Spitfire’s characteristically hoppy flavour and risqué advertising campaign featuring two of Cambridge’s finest – Armstrong and Miller – has made it a firm favourite with beer lovers.
The agreement will see Spitfire available at the game, at pre-match events, and at the official after party.
Making the announcement, Varsity Match organiser Mark Ramsdale said “The Pcubed Rugby League Varsity Match is delighted to welcome Spitfire as our official beer. After the success of last year’s event at the HAC, we have added a second marquee to cater for spectators and I am sure they will all enjoy Spitfire responsibly as they watch the teams battle it out to take the ultimate lead over their arch-rivals.”
Giles Hilton of Spitfire brewer Shepherd Neame said “Varsity matches are always intense battles and the Pcubed Rugby League Varsity Match is a fantastic event at an outstanding venue. It is one that we are very pleased to be able to support and we are looking forward to another great day.”
